| Main Purpose: | Municipal heat planning enables cities and municipalities to systematically plan a climate-neutral heat supply. This includes the analysis of current and future heating requirements, potential for renewable energies, heating networks and interventions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. |
| Mandated by: | According to the new Heat Planning Act, which has been in force since January 1, 2024, municipalities in Germany must draw up heat plans to ensure a sustainable heat supply. This law applies primarily to cities with a population of 100,000 or more. |
| Funding Opportunities: | The preparation of a Municipal Heating Plan is funded by the BMWK's Municipal Guidelines program, which offers financial support for climate protection interventions in municipalities. |
