Why we’re making ClimateOS Analysis free

Manon Morel Tue, 16 November 2021

We are giving cities the powerful analysis tools in the ClimateOS platform to use for free. No strings attached.

Months of climate planning work can now get done in days with robust data and intelligent modelling. Hurdles can be overcome quickly and with greater clarity thanks to best in class visualisations. Complex questions can be easily analysed via a set of innovative and interactive features.

Sounds great right? We tell you everything you need to know about the ClimateOS Analysis toolkit. But first, we’d like to share why we decided to make it free.

Why we’re doing this

It is high time for the collective to act

We, as a collective, are at a crossroads. Over the last decade, little progress has been made. The IPCC report has demonstrated it. COP26 has reinforced it. The need for verifiable plans is greater than ever. And the momentum created is perfect to get governments everywhere rowing in the same direction.

Providing the support that cities need in order to go in that direction just makes sense.

Cities need to get over the planning threshold

For too long, cities have been stuck planning, weighing out the best path to take, debating about what the best data is. And the truth is, this is still happening today. There is a tendency to plan, refine, and rethink without ever really taking the next step towards implementation. Cities and governments need a way to finally propel themselves past this planning phase, with the confidence that what they are doing is right. Not perfect, but right and in line with their goals.

With the ClimateOS Analysis toolkit, we have made it easy for you to plan, so that you can focus on implementation. We have created all that you need to get past that threshold. In one single platform.

Cities need coherent plans

For a long time, governments have attempted to solve an interconnected problem with disjointed solutions. Targets, actions, budgets, departments have been living separate lives. The ‘plan’ itself has been a set of disconnected documents and spreadsheets. In some cases spanning 20+ documents and 1000's of pages.

Integrating climate planning in a single easy to use platform is an important step for cities to take to drive change. That means having one place for data, modeling and actions.

The beauty of the ClimateOS platform is that the more the user base scales, the better and the more refined the data becomes. Not only does the platform learn, but so do you as a city.

It centralizes and connects all these moving parts, but it also enables us to make the most of our collaborative Intelligence by lowering information sharing costs and maximising learning from each other.

What’s becoming free and why you should use it

With the free toolkit, your day-to-day work is simplified and you can now concretely understand what changes are needed to reach the Paris Agreement.

Inventory Management and CDP Emission Reporting

Emission inventory management takes time and effort. We have created a centralized online tool to both fast-track the work while making it more meaningful to the planning process.

The data is presented according to the climate protocols you are used to working with, starting with the GPC, with others coming very soon. Reporting will be simplified to just a few clicks. And just in time for next year’s reporting to CDP.

You have access to emissions data and the underlying activity data, providing the granularity you need to report and to understand exactly how to act on it.

City Climate Modelling

According to Cities Today, digital twins are becoming ‘the ultimate tool for cities to design, plan and manage their connected infrastructure and assets’. We have created a digital twin that enables you to think about the potential transitions from high-to-low carbon your city can undertake. Using a set of parameters for your city, you are able to calibrate our 85+ Transition Elements to your city’s circumstances and simulate the impact of each Transition on your overall target.

Instant Scenario Builder

It is one thing to look at each Transition separately. But it is much more difficult to understand how they interact and add up, and whether they together are enough to get you towards your goal. The Scenario Builder helps you see the impact of interdependent low-carbon transitions and to evaluate multiple what-ifs scenarios just by pulling interactive levers.

Action Editor

A Climate Action Plan is little without a robust set of actions that help you work towards your targets. The ClimateOS platform allows you to contextualize your actions in relation to the target they are working towards and get an overview of everything planned.

Start free, upgrade when ready

The free ClimateOS Analysis toolkit is designed to get you through planning quickly and into collaborating on delivery faster.

When you are ready to take the next step, you can upgrade to the Collaboration toolkit, which includes features such as your Turnkey Plan Website, which will help you meaningfully involve and engage stakeholders to gain broad support and ensure an equitable transition.

Some additional exciting upgrades will also be made available in the next few months to help you with implementation. In the meantime, let’s focus on progress.
